Are Laptops Becoming Obsolete?

Tablet pc such as the Apple iPad was hitting the market since its release. The evolution of computers is completely remarkable. Technology brought old enormous computers to a compact and handy device such as laptops. Laptops are considered to be a must have gadget that everyone are going crazy just to have one. It benefits those who are always on the go and needs a device to organize their files, etc. However, this laptop insanity was suddenly change after Apple releases its latest portable gadget that is compact and somewhat resembling the laptops and it was named iPAd. Since its release in January 2010 the market for iPad continues to grow as they are now on their 3rd generation. This tablet that was popularized by Apple is the most sought after device at this era leaving the laptops behind. Apple revolutionized the way tablets are accepted by people and they go nuts just to have it. How about the laptops? Is it the time for this device to rest in peace? Some said that the era of laptops are soon to end, however, some may still prefer using laptops instead of iPad especially those that do office works. 

 From the moment abacus was used thousands of years ago to the discovery of bulky mainframe computers, comes a more powerful, less spacious and compact computers. Thanks to technology those massive computers were modified in way that it is accessible to others especially to those working at offices. These computers are then called desktop. A desktop computer starts to hit the market at around early 90’s until the present, however, the demand for desktop suddenly decreases due to the birth of a modern more compact computer which are the laptops. Laptops are the must have gadget during the late 90’s, even though they are much expensive compare to the rival desktop. Laptop continues to dominate the market till the 00’s, but this domination was cut to soon when computer makers formulate a much lighter, much smaller, and much advance device that has similar feature with the laptops aside from touch screen feature added. The release of Steve Jobs iPAd tablet was a huge hit as it continues to dominate the World Wide market up to this point in time. Modern advancement brings a lot of new things that we thought to be impossible to happen. So how long will the tablet computers will dominate? We never know it’s hard to foresee the future with the power of technology that lies ahead. 

 Definitely these devices are the most sought after amenities for people of all ages. They continuously rule the market as the hottest gadget that everybody was dreaming of. However, which of these two works best? Although they posses some similarities in terms of features the way they are built was different so let’s check them for advantages and disadvantages

 1. Size – This is one important aspect that traveler always consider when buying their stuff. It is easier to say that tablet do have the advantage when it comes to size, since they weigh under two ponds and consume a space as the size of a pad of paper. Even the thinnest laptops such as the Apple MacBook Air have no matched with the tablets.

 2. Input method – This is very important for those that do a lot of typing such as office paper works, etc. Although a tablet computer also allows you to type, the main difference was that a tablet does not have an actual keyboard. What it has was a touch interface on the screen for all input which tablet relies most. Nevertheless, it was clear that laptop fits well to those people that type a lot and iPad or tablets works well for those that do more of point interaction. 

3. Battery life – Tablets dominates this category since the laptops are more powerful tools that consume a large amount of battery life. Furthermore, tablets can be used to surf the Web without charging in for approximately ten hours. 

4. Storage Capacity – Memory wise, the laptops has a slight advantage compared to the tablets. Most of the tablets rely on their built in memory which can go as high as 32 GB, some has external storage features but can’t handle huge amount of memory around nearly 100 GB. On the other hand, laptops memory storage can be upgraded up to 500 gigabytes to terabytes and still handles it well. 

5. Performance – Tablets do perform well, I think laptops must better since the software and hardware part can be upgrade to a new one, compared to the tablet when there’s a problem with the screen of other parts you have no choice but to dump it and buy a new one. 

6. Stand alone device – For me this is the best quality that a gadget must possess to gain to become more advantageous. For example the only computer system that you have was the tablet computer; will you able to do all of the things on your tablet without any help from a laptop? I don’t think so, tablet especially the iPad requires to be connected to a PC to activate it same is true with other tablet brands. So for this aspect laptops win. 

 As a conclusion, both of these modern devices are the must have to be able to jive the era of modernization. Although tablet computers are much popular nowadays they just can’t be your primary computer for it can’t stand alone and do all the works as laptops do.
